Brain Dump For Stress Relief

I recently saw a quote while scrolling social media that went something like this:

“Hey overthinkers, we are going to be okay.”

Can anyone else relate to that on pretty much every level?

Good, I was worried I was alone with this ;)

Like you, I wear many hats. Between family, entrepreneurship, managing my own personal and professional goals, and trying to find time for fun and hobbies... it goes without saying that life can get pretty overwhelming at times (overwhelming can be positive or negative - I will let you decide how you want to perceive it).

Although I am blessed with the life that I have, I am not exempt from the natural tendency to overthink and overwhelm myself with everything I get to experience on a daily basis. Which is why it has become extremely important for me to find healthy coping skills to help me organize my thoughts, reduce stress, and gain clarity on what is important and what needs my focus most on any given day.

Which leads me to the brain dump practice.

This may sound goofy, but trust me when I say that this simple mindfulness technique can do wonders for the mind and body.

START HERE

  • Grab a pen & journal and get comfy.

  • Sit up tall, relax your shoulders and close your eyes.

  • Take a feel DEEP breaths, INHALE through your nose, EXHALE out of your mouth. This will help get you chilled out for your journaling!

  • Once you feel cool, calm & collected...put your pen to the paper and start to write (KEEP YOUR EYES CLOSED & please DON'T OVERTHINK THIS PART)!

  • Allow yourself to be completely open to whatever comes up for you, and write it down/draw it on the paper without judgment! Different thoughts, images and ideas may start to come up for you, write them ALL down as they surface.

  • After you spend some time “journaling” gently blink the eyes open and reflect on what you see. Take a HUGE breath IN and a HUGE breath out. ⠀

The key here is to NOT get overwhelmed try not to get overwhelmed. This can serve as a great visual representation of what has been taking up space in your mind and where you have been spending your energy!
